Under Construction
After two summer tours through Holland, Europe and South Africa, now in the summer of 2009 on the Over het IJ Festival, Amsterdam, and in september on the New isLand Festival New York!
Under Construction is a hilarious performance of new Dutch theatre company De Jongens. In 50 minutes, with 4 actors, 11 characters and a serious amount of old fridges, washing machines and microwaves they will show you a very interesting rebuilding. Of what? That doesn’t matter!! Their slapstick, the speed in which the scenes add up and their colourful characters will captivate and astonish you without doubt. They exploit the site, and use slapstick, a fair amount of suspense and a fearless attitude as ingredients for their spectacular shows.

"Strange human species are babbling and messing about among rusty household appliances. They wear wigs of ties and silly spectacles, they nibble from electrical wiring and disappear through swishing shutters. The slapstick really gets going when they return as different characters: a superior and three constructors try to catalogue the mess. Later a reporter and a front soldier arrive. All botching of male archetypes."

"These theatre makers, desiring to be real men, but forever they will be boys, are very talented whimps. Little thinkers, philosophers, actors. Valuable for their profession, full of imaginative power."

"The four actors play all parts and smartly use the bushes around the old helicopter port and stacked fridges for fast costume changes. Under Construction is a play not only created for outdoor presentations, but the very funny and skilful slapstick makes is very suitable for festivals."
